Wedding fireworks step-by-step guide

Step-by-step guide

When planning a wedding firework display choosing the right firework company is essential. With lots of firework companies to choose from, knowing who to trust can feel a little overwhelming. Here, we lay out the information you need to know and what Flashpoint can offer you on your wedding day.

You can also view our wedding firework videos to see what types of displays we can provide.

1. Wedding firework location
A wedding firework display does require a certain amount of space. Venues with a large outdoor space work well such as:
  • Hotels with large gardens
  • Countryside estates
  • Golf clubs
All of the above will generally have enough space for a firework display. Where space is an issue, we can provide displays that use lower debris material. These are venues such as:
  • Roof tops
  • Private houses
  • High street locations

Ask your venue if they allow fireworks. All wedding venues have different policies on fireworks, some allow them while some only allow certain types of fireworks such as lower noise. Most venues only allow a professional company to provide displays due to insurance.

2. What time shall I have my fireworks?
Fireworks look best after dark, so if you are getting married in mid-summer your display will be best after 10:00pm. Weddings at other times of the year offer greater flexibility as it gets dark earlier.

Really, there are no set rules for when the display should take place. If your ceremony finishes in the early evening, setting off the fireworks straight afterwards is a great way to draw guests outside to create that memorable moment and all important photo opportunity.

Popular times for a display include:
  • When evening guests arrive (if dark enough)
  • After the first dance
  • At the end of the evening

At the end of the day, you can choose a timing that suits you, as long as the firework display is finished by 11:00pm. This is the legal cut-off time in the UK for firework displays except for November 5th, New Years Eve, Diwali and Chinese New Year.

We can also provide daylight displays if you are not having an evening celebration. Here, we can use smoke effects, titanium comets and fountains which are visible during daylight hours. See image below.

3. How much does a wedding display cost?
Wedding firework displays typically cost between £995 and £11,000 for a professional display with Flashpoint Fireworks. Many couples find that a budget of £1,995 to £3,995 provides a high-quality, 5+ minute firework display and a budget of £2,500 to £7,500 provides a high-quality pyro musical firework display. Contact the team at Flashpoint to discuss your budget.

  • Budget £995+ = 3 minute display, usually fired from one location.
  • Mid-Range £1995+ = 4 minute display with more intensity and a better finale.
  • Premium £4,995+ = 6 minute display, including pyro musicals (music synchronisation). Usually fired from three locations.
  • Exquisite £7995+ = 7+ minute display, including pyro musicals (music synchronisation). Usually fired from five locations.
  • Pyro musicals £2495-£15,000+: Choreographed musical displays designed by British Musical Firework Champions.

Factors affecting your budget.
  • Duration: Generally, expect to pay around £200-300 for every extra minute after the initial 5 minutes.
  • Venue Restrictions: Some venues require low-noise fireworks only, which can sometimes cost more.
  • Time of Year: Prices may be higher around Guy Fawkes Night (5th November) and New Years Eve.
And finally… Tips for maximising your budget
  • Choose a 3-minute show: A short, high-intensity 3-minute display is better than a long, drawn-out 6-minute display.
  • Ask for a "crowd-pleaser": Ask for a mix of firework effects to include high-altitude display shells for maximum impact.
  • Prioritise a budget just for the finale: To ensure your package includes a "jaw-dropping" finale, add a specific budget.
